Riffkorallen als Klimaarchiv
Frankfurt/Mainz (pte) - Wissenschaftler der Universität Mainz haben anhand von 8,2 Mio. Jahre alten Korallenriffen vor der Insel Kreta wichtige Erkenntnisse über Klimamodelle erhalten. Die Experten wollen damit der Frage nachgehen, welche Klimazustände auf der Erde grundsätzlich möglich sind. Beim Jahrestreffen der paläontologischen Gesellschaft in Mainz sollen dieses Thema und die Folgen für die Biodiversität der Erde diskutiert werden.
